Retro Housewife Themed Bridal Shower

This shower was a couple of weeks ago...but I still wanted to share what I was able to do for my friend, Jamie's shower. =) Her colors are light blue and a deep red...automatically I think 'retro'. I knew I wanted to do a "housewife" theme for her shower and the 'retro' fit with that perfectly!

 Game- Guess Who's Celebrity Kitchen

First thing I wanted to do is have a mixer in for the centerpieces for each table...luckily, I had a lot of friends who had mixers and who were willing to entrust me with them! =) i LOVE how it looked. Along with the mixers on each table, I had a framed pic of Jamie and her fiancee, a paper with games, a post card for the ladies to fill in their names and addresses (to make 'thank yous' easier for the bride)... AND I found this great excerpt  from a 1955 women's magazine that I typed up and put on the table for a conversation starter. =) The Good Wife 1955

I had a lot of fun with these cute banners all over the place! =) Congratulations Banner

The popcorn boxes I found at Walmart in their little party section. I made a up a label and stuck it on the front and just threw some caramel popcorn in there. He Popped the Question Label ps. the Ricotta cookies recipe that I have is my new favorite dessert to make! love them!!

Funny cake is a Pennsylvania-Dutch thing. Definition: =) You have your pie crust, and you put your cake batter in it. You pour the chocolate "icing" on before you bake it and as it bakes the chocolate "icing" seeps through the cake batter between the cake batter and pie crust...it really doesn't make any kind of sense....but let me tell you.....it is REALLY delish!! =)

The shower itself was a 'desserts only' shower with refreshments. I had a couple volunteers make some delicious desserts!

I Googled 1950's pictures and advertisements to find some really cool pictures. I also found some really great sayings from Anne Taintor. She has some hilarious stuff!! I actually ordered my napkins from her store...I got 4 different 'sayings'!! The ladies loved them! Anyway...I just enlarged the pictures I found on Google with my quote and printed them on card stock, cut them down to size, and placed them around for decoration. =)

cupcake boxes so the ladies could take their favors home with them.

For the favors I set up a cupcake decorating station...'glam your cupcake'. I bought 5 different box mixes (I cheated, and didn't make them from scratch): Red Velvet, Devil's Food, Confetti, Vanilla, & Strawberry. Each box mix makes approximately  24 cupcakes. I had 120 cupcakes total.

the bride-to-be had a lot of fun! I'm so glad she was surprised!!!

I had a prize basket for each lady to pick from when they won at a game...I found these awesome "housewife" themed things at Michael's for super inexpensive!!

One of the games I had the girls play (it's better if you don't have socks, nylons, or long pants on to play this game) was that each girl had to put on her knee-highs with oven mitts on their hands. The first one to complete the task WON!! =) it was hilarious to watch!! =) I found really cheap knee-highs at Walmart.

On the invitations I had instructed the ladies to wear their aprons to the shower. The reason being, The Bride is to pick her favorite apron- thus, that guest receives a prize. =) There are some cute aprons out there too!

Let me know if you want to try my Ricotta cookie recipe or my mom's Funny cake recipe! =)
