Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everyone!
St. Patrick's Day Facts:1. St. Patrick was kidnapped at age 16 by Irish raiders and held captive as a slave. He escaped by boarding a boat to Britain and upon his arrival he studied becoming a priest.
2. He passed away on March 17th.
3. The original color associated with St. Patrick was blue.
4. St. Patrick used to use a three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity of God. Thus, the shamrock shape became a key image used to represent St. Patrick's Day.
5. The Irish came up with the saying 'kiss me I'm Irish' to get luck or to get lucky ;)
6. 'Luck of the Irish' saying owes its origin to America. When the Irish came to America they had the kind of success most Americans at the time didn't think the Irish were capable of, so they called it luck. Hence, the term 'luck of the Irish'.
7. The word 'leprechaun' is originally derived from Old Irish meaning 'small body'.
8. Leprechauns first appeared in text in the 17th century.
9. Legend has it if you find a leprechaun's pot-of-gold you can trick the leprechaun into keeping it...but usually the leprechaun ends up tricking you.
10. Pinching, a tradition that started by Americans in the 1700s, was to warn you about leprechauns. If you wore green it made you invisible to the leprechauns...they were on the hunt for those who didn't wear green.
I found this for free at Wallpaper Abyss. I thought it was HILARIOUS!!
May your day be filled with the 'luck of the Irish'!
Don't forget to wear some green (save yourself from getting pinched)! =)
