On Saturday, My mom, niece, and I went to see Newsies the Broadway Musical in New York! It was REALLY good!! Though I still like the movie better....the musical was still very cool. If you haven't seen the movie, you have to go out and buy it right now! It is the best family movie and a fantastic musical.
It's all based on a true historic story...the Newsboys Strike of 1899. There is a book, that writes about these newsboys and the children of that era called Children of the City: At Work and At Play. There is also a children's book called Kid Blink Beats the World. Kid Blink is the real leader of the Newsboys Strike of 1899. In the movie the leader (and main character) of the strike is named Jack Kelly...and if you didn't know...is played by Christian Bale!!
I remember watching this movie over and over and over again with my mom and sisters. We absolutely love this movie! There aren't a lot of musicals that I love EVERY song...but this one I do! We bought the soundtrack and the piano music...we became slightly obsessive. =)
A little teaser here...the songs and the choreography are amazing!!

This is the Newsies Broadway Musical.
A couple of dancers from The Newsies Broadway musical.
We got to the theater (The Nederland Theater) early, because we knew there would be a huge crowd and I wanted to get a few pictures before people started gathering.
My mom & niece, Tashia, outside of the theater.
Tashia & I...getting excited to see the broadway show!
We didn't have seats together, but I was sitting right behind Tash and my mom was at the end of the row behind me. The show is about to start!!! I have to turn my phone off now. =)
So, I couldn't resist...I bought the t-shirt. It was $25 at Broadway...I actually called my husband to see if we could get it cheaper online, but it's the same price. You can get it from here: Playbill Store. At the show they actually had 2 types of shirts to pick from, women's fitted and a regular t-shirt. I got the women's fitted because I think they look nicer on, but I had to get an XL because they ran so small. I'm usually a medium/large.
We went to Time Square for a little bit. We ate dinner at Planet Hollywood. We stopped in at the visitor's center and they had some costumes on display from some of the different Broadway musicals. The dress on the left is from Wicked and the dress on the right is from Shrek.
The also had the ball (that they drop at New Year's) on display...that was pretty interesting to see up close.
I hope I have convinced you that Newsies is worth watching. =) If you haven't seen the movie yet, seriously...go buy it already! Newsies: 20th Anniversary Edition [Blu-ray] (1992) I doubt that you will be disappointed. =) Enjoy your movie night!

RACETRACK: Dear me! What is that unpleasant aroma?
I fear the sewer may have backed up during the night
I fear the sewer may have backed up during the night
BOOTS: Nah, too rotten to be the sewers.
CRUTCHY: It must be the Delancey brudders.

BOOTS: Hey, we ain’t scared of Brooklyn. Spot Conlon makes us a little nervous.
JACK: Well, he don’t make me nervous. So you and me, Boots,
we’ll go to Brooklyn. And Dave here can keep us company.
----------------------------------------------------
JACK: So this snooty mug says to me, ‘You can’t see Mr. Pulitzer.
No one sees Mr. Pulitzer.’ Real hoity-toity, you know the type?
LES: Real hoity-toity.
----------------------------------------------------
DAVID: Alright. Everyone remain calm.
JACK: Let’s soak ‘em for Crutchy!
----------------------------------------------------
SPOT: Never fear, Brooklyn is here.
MUSH: It’s Brooklyn!
----------------------------------------------------
RACETRACK: Glum and dumb. What’s the matta with you? You get your picture in the papes, your famous. Your famous, you get anything you want. That’s what so great about New York!
----------------------------------------------------
RACETRACK: Oh, you mean Jack Kelly. Yeah,
he was here, but he put an egg in his shoe and beat it.
----------------------------------------------------
RACETRACK: We’re with you Jack.
JACK: So, what about you, Spot?
SPOT: I say that what you say is what I say.
