Painting Ceramics

Since it was the Easter holiday weekend, my niece and I decided to take advantage of the time we had off. We decided to take a little field trip. =) We knew we wanted to paint ceramics...so I looked up a place that I knew was near my husband's work called Color Me Mine. They have a ton of locations in the United States and internationally! Ben Affleck even took his daughter to a Color Me Mine in Beverly Hills! Cute!

Anyway, the one we went to was opened on the Monday after Easter AND they had a special that day if you got there before 12 noon you got half off your sitting fee. So instead of it being $9 a person it was only $4.50...this does not include whatever ceramic piece your are painting, those are all priced separately. If you want to try this out, look up ceramic places in your area. Make sure you know all the fees before you go so you know how much this adventure will cost you. Check to see if they have any special deals on different days.
Here is Tashia starting her plate.
I just started my cupcake plate. I LOVE cupcakes...I kinda have a thing going on in my kitchen with cupcakes. I have a cupcake cookie jar from Pier 1 Imports. I also have a soap dish and spoon rest I got from Target last summer. They were in the dollar section 2 for $1, so of course I had to get them, plus they matched my cookie jar perfectly! Eventually, I'm going to do this...

I already have two jars like this on my kitchen counter for my flour and sugar. To add a little color I'd like to have a jar full of cupcake wrappers. You can get them really inexpensively at Michael's Craft Store in the dollar section. You can get the jar at Walmart.
 Tashia's plate...just starting...
Eww, I look terrible. The only reason I posted this picture is so you could see the ceramic selection you get (in the background). So, don't look at me, look at the ceramics. =)
All done!! Tashia did some paint splatters around the edge of her plate. I think it will look cool once they fire it. When they fire the ceramic it becomes dishwasher safe and food safe. They put a clear glaze over your entire piece. It's pretty cool...and the colors look A LOT different then when you are painting them.
My cupcake plate all finished. You can't hardly see it, but I did a speckled paint for the majority of the plate. So it's white paint with little tiny multicolored specks. I think it will look pretty cool fired.
Our table. So, it takes a week for them to complete your project. When I can pick them up I'll be taking a picture and showing you the end results to Tashia and I's ceramic fun! =)

Now go look up a ceramic place and try something new! =) Have fun!
