Paper Purse Favors

I'm part of a 'planning committee' at my church and we're planning the next ladies outing. We do one every other year since about 400 ladies come. It's usually a big ordeal. For our main theme this year we're doing a fashion show and we were trying to come up with some cute favor ideas...because who doesn't like to bring home some kind of goodie. =) One of the ladies on the committee brought in these cute purse favors! They are actually super adorable!! They could be used for a bridal shower or a little girls dress-up party....I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! =)
This is the finished product...soooooo cute!!!!
You start with an elongated hexagon. If you want to use my templates, click here: purse templates
You cut out the hexagon shape and turn it over, face down. You want to score with a bone folder. The bone folder will help give you a crisp fold exactly where you want it. I did two scores about a 1/4 inch apart.
It's hard to see the scored line, but again I just did each score about 1/4 inch from each other.
This is the main part of the purse.
Now for the top...again, I did two scored lines about a 1/4 inch from each other.
You're going to punch two holes so you can add your ribbon...tie a knot
so it won't allow the ribbon to be pulled out of the holes you punched.
You're going to glue one side of the top piece to one side of the bottom piece.
You're going to want to make a "clasp" for your purse. I'm using Martha Stewart's circle cutter as a stencil because I don't think her "cutter" works really well...but it's a good stencil. =) I did a 1 and 1/2 inch circle.
Cut out two circles and cut a small piece of foam that's sticky on both sides and attach the two circles.
Next you'll want to get some Velcro that's sticky on both sides as well. I found this (and the black ribbon) at Walmart for super cheap. This doesn't have to be an expensive project....it just takes some time.
What I did is attached the Velcro to the top so when I closed it the other part of the Velcro would be at the exact spot it was supposed to be without doing any guessing and putting the two Velcro pieces on separately.
Tadah! Notice where you'll be attaching the "clasp" (the circle pieces you cut out)...
it reinforces that area for when people are pulling at the Velcro to open their purse.
And you're all finished!!! You could stamp an image in the center of the circle to add
some more pizzazz to the purse...or glitter...your options are endless! =) Also when you open
your purse you could attach a little notepad or a Ghirardelli square to be the special something
inside your purse favor. =) Hope you've enjoyed this little tutorial...and hope you can use it
sometime soon!!! If you do use it...I would love to see the purses you come up!! =)
