DIY Doily Table Runner

I think that there is often a misspelling of the word doily. I did a little research and I looked it up. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the correct spelling 'doily' NOT 'doilie'. The word 'doilie' is NOT in the dictionary. There is another way of spelling it 'doyley', but it's said that it's mostly used by the British. So, now that we got that out of the way, we can move forward. =)

We did this project a little while ago. My niece wanted to make a doily table runner for her new apartment. Because of my husband's grandmother being a crocheting wizard, I have a bin full of different doilies. =) We went a-shopping in house. =) Basically, all you do is pick out your favorite doilies...there isn't any right ones or wrong ones. You can overlap them or you can just bump the edges up against each other.
This is before we sewed them all together. We laid them out in a pattern that we thought looked nice & took a picture of it so we could reference back to it while we were sewing the rest of the pieces together.
We just used a similar shade thread and started stitching them together, making sure each piece was secured.
This is the part that takes a while. It's just time consuming, but if you have help it's nice.
This is how it ended up. =) I sewed my side & Tashia sewed her side. When we looked at the finished product our sides looked different...oops. I took apart my side & resewed it. It looks really great now, not what we had planned originally, but I think it looks better.
Drum roll please....here it is in it's final home.
Don't you just love her vintage dresser?!?! She got this beauty off Craigslist!!
