For those of you who don't know, I help my friend with her children's Valentine's each year. It's something I've really enjoy and look forward to (I pretty sure they do too). =) I like to come up with new stuff...or find things people already made & make it my own. =) This year we're doing a Hershey Kiss Mouse Valentine, Lacrosse themed Valentine, & a Star Wars themed Valentine. I was able to come up with some really cool downloads for each of these, so look for the free downloads in my tutorials below!
I Love Lacrosse, But You're Pretty Nice Too! Valentine Tutorial
What You Will Need:
- I Love Lacrosse, But You're Pretty Nice Too! Valentine Download
- Lacrosse Stick Template Download
- Cardboard (I used my cereal box)
- Cutting Board
- X-Acto Knife
- 1 Sheet of Plastic Canvas (I purchased mine from A.C. Moore)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Permanent Marker
- Scrapbook Piece of Paper (size 8 1/2 X 11)- optional
- Lollipops- also optional
You'll want to download the Lacrosse Valentine & the Lacrosse Stick Template first. There are three 'I Love Lacrosse' Valentine's on one 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. You're going to print this on white card stock. The Lacrosse Stick Template should probably be printed on card stock as well. If you want to transfer it to the cardboard it may work a lot better for you. Cut out all your 'I Love Lacrosse' Valentine's & your Lacrosse Stick Template.
Trace your lacrosse stick onto your cardboard.
Cut the actual lacrosse stick out with scissors, but you'll need to cut the centers out with the X-Acto knive...carefully!! I would highly recommend doing this on your cutting board.
Grab your plastic canvas. This is what I used for the "netting". I used the top of my template as a guide to cut out the "netting" for the lacrosse sticks. Just trace around the top with the permanent marker and cut on the line. Once you do this it's actually easier to just put you cut piece on top of the plastic canvas and just hold it in place while you cut around it.
Hot glue the "netting" to the back side of your cardboard lacrosse stick.
You may need to do a little trimming once you glued the "netting" on,
but I think it looks pretty good!
Take your lacrosse stick and use as a guide to where you'd like to cut your slits in your Valentine. Again, use your cutting board. You'll do two cut marks: above the 'E' & bottom left side of the heart (pictured above, but hard to see)
Slide your lacrosse stick thru the slits you cut and add a decorative piece of paper to the back (totally optional) & wah-lah! Finished! Personally, I like it without the lollipop, but my friend's son wanted to add a lollipop to his.
So, here it is with a lollipop. Either way works!
May the Force Be With You Star Wars Valentine
What You Will Need:
- May the Force Be With You Star Wars Valentine Download
- Pixy Sticks (I found mine at 5 Below)
- X-Acto Knife
- Cutting Board
- Tape
- Scissors
Print out the Star Wars Valentine on white card stock.
There are two Valentine's per page. Cut each Valentine out around the red edge.
Next using the cutting board and X-Acto knife place a Pixy Stick as your guide to cut a slit in your Valentine where Darth Vader & Obi-Wan Kenobi's hands are.
On the backside just tape your Pixy Sticks in place. And you're finished!!
Mice to Know You Hershey Kiss Mouse Valentine
What You Will Need:
- Mice to Know You Hershey Kiss Mouse Valentine Download
- Heart Template Download
- One bag of Hershey Kisses (with silver foil)
- Glue
- Glue Dots
- Scissors
- Gray Yarn (for tail)
- Small Wiggle Eyes (7 mm)
Print the 'Mice to Know You' Valentine's on white card stock. There are 6 on a page. Print your Heart Template on card stock as well. Cut out each item. Trace your heart onto some gray craft or scrapbook paper (a little thicker then regular printing paper).
Put a dab of glue on both sides of the gray heart which is being used for the ears. Press a Hershey Kiss onto either side of the heart ears. Once this dries a little take a glue dot and place on the bottom of the 2 Hershey kisses and stick onto your "cheese slice". Glue your eyes into place.
I used gray yarn with a little bit of sparkle thread in it for the tail. The tail is approximately 4 inches long.
Once you have all your tails cut, tie a knot on both ends so the yarn won't fray. Glue the tail into place and you have a mouse!!
You can definitely embellish this one more. A couple ideas are: gluing the cheese to a paper plate, making a smaller pink heart for the inside of the ears, adding little feet. We have to make 24 of these, so I tried to make my version a little less complicated. =)
Hope you enjoyed the free downloads and tutorials!!
Happy Valentine's Day (a little early) =)
Any of you making your own Valentine's? Would love to see what you make!!
