I found this DIY Pinwheel Table Numbers post on Ruffledblog.com. I fell in love with them the moment I saw them. The only thing I didn't like is after they were all done with their fantastic pinwheels there were no stands for them. I was thinking of what I could do to make my table numbers a little more unique. I had bought these glass insulators at an auction a while ago and a light bulb turned on...I could use these as the base of my table numbers! =) I'm making table numbers for a special teen girls program they are having at my church. It's called MAPquest...Mad About Purity quest. Because it's an ongoing quest to stay pure, we decided to go with a travel theme. So, I went to it...
These are the glass insulators. You can buy them off of Ebay, but I'm warning you that they are pricey on there. Your best bet is to try to go to auctions or flea markets. You can get them cheaper there.
You'll want to get floral wire...it's thick but very easily flexible. I found it at the dollar store! Very excited!
Wrap your wire around the groove of your glass insulator.
I found these great maps for free on the internet and made my own pinwheel backgrounds. If you want to would like them click here: world map pinwheel backgrounds
If you want to make your own, the size you need is 3 inches high by 6 inches wide. You will need 4 of these. (I could only fit 3 on a page). I highly suggest printing them out on card stock. You'll cut each of you pictures out.
You need to score every 1/2 inch on the blank side of your pictures.
Now I do own a Martha Steward's bone folder...honestly, I don't really like it. I've used it so much that it's worn on the ends that are supposed to make a crisp clean line, but now it doesn't. =( So...I have become creative with scoring...butter knives, flat head screwdriver, you name it, I've tried it.
Glue all of your scored and folded pictures together. I used a glue gun. Tip: you don't want any of the edges of your papers to be sticking up. You always want to put the edge down.
All 4 pictures glued together...
Glue the two ends together making a complete circle with your scored pictures.
Push the middle down.
Hot glue and make sure it's cooled before you turn it over to glue the other side.
Again, make sure the glue cools.
I made up these table numbers...I printed these on card stock as well. You can download them here: table numbers.
Hot glue the number to the front.
Cut out a small circle and glue to the back of the pinwheel.
You want to hot glue your wire in one of the folds of the pinwheel. Make sure it cools completely before standing upright. And.....
Wah-lah!!!
Aren't they darling!?!?!?!
I absolutely love them!!! I was soooo excited to use them too! Everyone loved them! =) If you can't find antique glass insulators...you could just use ball jars, that way you could put a votive in it too. Just a thought. Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed these table numbers! I sure do adore them!
